For generations, a long-term career with a single employer was considered the foundation of professional success.
Today, that reality has fundamentally changed.
Organisations are restructuring more frequently, technology is accelerating the pace of disruption, and careers are increasingly defined by adaptability rather than longevity.
Employment is no longer guaranteed, and for many professionals, the question is no longer if they will need to reinvent themselves, but when.
That’s why I created The Solo Move
The Solo Move recognises this new reality by helping individuals prepare for the transition from employee to contractor, consultant, or independent professional not as a reaction to uncertainty, but as a deliberate step toward greater control, resilience, and opportunity.
The transition from Employee to Contractor, and from Contractor to Consultant.
After making that journey myself (more than once!), I’ve realised there are principles that make the transition far less risky than most people imagine.
Going solo wasn’t a leap of faith. It was a series of deliberate decisions, mistakes, lessons and adjustments that eventually led me to build multiple businesses, consult internationally and work with organisations around the world.
During that journey, I realised something.
Most advice about becoming independent focuses on motivation.
Very little focuses on preparation!
The Solo Move isn’t about encouraging people to quit their jobs.
It’s about helping professionals understand when they’re ready, how to prepare, and how to build a sustainable independent career. Whether that’s as a contractor, consultant or business owner.
It sits alongside my work with Structured Change and Applying Asset Management, but serves a different purpose.
Helping individuals navigate one of the biggest professional transitions they’ll ever make.
The Solo Move helps professionals design a structured transition from employment to independent practice.
